Multi Gas Detector

A multi-gas detector is a portable instrument designed to measure multiple gases simultaneously. It can typically monitor oxygen, combustibles and toxics like Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S), Carbon Monoxide (CO) or Sulfur Dioxide (SO2).

Most multi gas detectors contain an electrochemical sensor that changes the output of the sensor into a reading on the instrument display. The electronics of the device convert the sensor output into a signal that will trigger an audible and visual alarm when the levels of the gases are above or below your application set points.

The sensors in a multi gas detector are the heart of the unit, and they must be calibrated regularly to ensure accurate results. This is done by exposing the sensor to a known level of gas, usually at a known concentration (called a “bump test”), then using calibration gas to reset and adjust the meter for the specific conditions you are working in. Calibration should be performed by your meter manufacturer, or by a certified service technician in accordance with the manufacturers recommended procedure.

Preventing Hazards: The Functionality of Hydrogen Leak Detectors

For fire fighters, industrial maintenance technicians and workers in confined spaces, the multi gas detector is an ideal tool for monitoring dangerous vapors, liquids and solids in the workplace. Many units use standard catalytic and electrochemical combustible, hydrogen sulfide and oxygen sensors to meet the vast majority of fire service applications, while advanced PID and IR models are
